Director/Lead Teacher Owls' Nursery Class
Hello everyone!
My name is Leeann Sigona-Hernandez, and I am the Director/Lead Nursery School Teacher at Faith Lutheran Nursey School. I have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and have 14 years' experience working with children from infant to ages 1-5. I also have had the opportunity to work with children and adults with disabilities.
I love to incorporate project-based learning in the classroom which I believe gives kids the opportunity to learn through play. I also love adding arts and crafts on a daily basis as well as story time and circle time. I'm firm believer that parent involvement is key in helping our students succeed. This along with teacher and parent communication can make difference in our students' learning. My passion is to teach and more importantly to help make a difference in children’s lives. I'm excited for what the new school year will bring and excited to meet and work with all.
Lead Teacher Ducklings' Toddlers Class
Hi everyone!
My name is Ashley O’Donnell, also known as Miss Ashley! I am the Lead Teacher of the toddler’s program here at Faith Lutheran Nursery School. I just received my Bachelor of Science degree at SUNY Cortland in May of 2022. I majored in Early Childhood/Childhood Education with a concentration in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology! During my undergrad, I have had many opportunities to work with children of all different ages and spent a lot of time in classrooms. I love working with children and want to make your child’s experience here a wonderful one. I plan to create a safe and nurturing environment where students can learn and grow. When I am not teaching, I love to read and spend time with friends and family! I am very grateful to be part of the staff here at Faith Nursery School and look forward to meeting and working with your children!
Owls Assistant Teacher
Hi everyone!
My name is Emily Cohen, and I’m an assistant teacher for the Owls classroom. I am currently a senior at Stony Brook University, where I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education. I love teaching and working with children, because I enjoy sharing my love of learning with them. In my free time, I love reading, painting, and going to workout classes. I'm so excited for the school year at Faith Nursery School!
Owls Assistant Teacher/Office Administrator
Miss Wendy has worn many hats while working at Faith for the past 30 years. She is currently the Office Administrator and the assistant teacher in the Owls classroom.
Wendy has worked with all age groups as assistant teacher, camp counselor, and camp director.
She is a reliable and dedicated worker, to both Faith and the children. She keeps calm and is always caring and nurturing.
Wendy has lived in the community for 37 years, has a grown daughter, and two grandchildren.
Ducklings Assistant Teacher
My name is Takiyah Kerr, and you can call me Ms. Kiyah! Working with people of all ages has always been something I enjoy doing. I am the oldest of 6 six siblings, so family plays a big part in my life! I also have four sons: two are attending middle school and high school, and my other two sons are twin kindergarteners. My sons are all completely opposite of each other and that pushes me every day to be the best person I can be.
Working with children has always been a passion of mine. At a young age, I had always cared for my younger siblings. My grandmother, who dedicated her life to caring for children, also built her career as a childcare provider. I was a volunteer throughout my high school years as a toddler teaching assistant and after school assistant. I absolutely love working with children and watching how excited they get with learning and exploring new things.
I graduated from Uniondale high school and graduated from Sanford Brown Institute as a Registered Medical assistant by trade. I love spending time with my sons going to parks and beaches, reading, and showing support to organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) since my son was diagnosed with Juvenile diabetes in 2018. I also love learning and understanding how things operate.
